Our House Composers - Mike Lyons

Mike Lyons PGCE
Born in 1956 in Bolton and educated at Thornleigh Salesian College under the guidance of Father 'Jock' McGovern who turned him into an Eb bass player. Aged just 13 years old, Mike played with the then Eagley Mills Band and rapidly became a soloist.

A combined Maths and Music degree at Manchester, and further gained a PGCE at Didsbury when he then became a music teacher in the Wigan area.

Mike has played with many Brass Bands, including Eccles Borough, Orrell Silver and currently holds the position of principal Eb Bass at Old Hall Brass. His School Band has won prizes at Wigan Festival.

Now have lots of published music and just been appointed as Teacher Governor at his school.

Likes : cheese, bands, composition, teaching composition, reading, beer,
alcoholic liquids, chocolate.

Dislikes : Gelatinous substances, children, teenagers, babies, lies,
pastels, gin, 'career' teachers, political correctness, being poor.
